This project of smart doorphone has become a landmark for the Formlab team. Our agency was not only a developer of design and construction, but also the technological partner of Horoshiye Shtuky company, which was acting as a customer. We were regularly writing about the status of the project, participated in the shooting of a commercial for the promotion of the project, promoting it on the exhibitions and events, and were doing many other things as well.
It is impossible not to pay attention to the form factor of the developed device. When we were making the design, the team of Horoshiye Shtuky company put serious restrictions on the cost of the project. We love challenges and are able to solve such problems; in this particular case we have replaced the case of casting aluminum with the extruded profile, thus saving tens of thousands of dollars in tooling and production for the startup.
The chosen technology of production, in turn, became the basis for the design. The extruded profile can have a complex cross section, but in any case, the housing may be elongated along one axis only. Therefore, in the development process we specifically removed all elements the presence of which was not essential to the functionality of the device. Thus the design of Connector bears nothing superfluous (the user should not even notice it, it should be turned on and forgotten).
The device is connected in the apartment to the usual driveway intercom and allows the user with the help of the smart phone to see and talk to the person at the door, and if necessary, open the door via an application. The system records all the video calls, takes photos of the guest, etc.
Now we are developing the software for the IktoTam apparatus, and we hope that this year the device will already hit the stores.
